THE SCARLET TROUBADOURS.
Programme No. 2 of the Scarlet Troubadours was given a splendidl reception in the Town Hall (Concert Chamber) last night, and deserved it. Miss LallaWard, who sang "Bird of Love," and met with the usual recall, amply confirmed previous good impressions. With Mr. Andrew Pace and Mr. Renn'Miller she was similarly successful in "II Naviganti." A robust rendering of "Invictus," by Mr. Miller, must be classed among the best; and a similar distinction is due to the songs of Miss Madalene Knight, "My Ships" and "Comin' Home." Mr. Harrison Williams sang with much appeal, and scored particularly with "Take a Pair of Sparkling Eyes." Nor does this considerable list exhaust the vocal side of the programme, for the duet, solo, and chorus from "Merrie England" found many enthusiastic admirers. On the comedy side, Miss Ivy Davis's soubrette work was of its usual high standard. Nothing on the programme w,ent better than "The Ghost of the Violin," in which the soubrette was ably supported by the company. That remarkable comedian, Mr. Reg. Hawthorne, is a host in himself, and has a face equal to a fortune. Mr. Andrew Pace, an old favourite, is better than ever ; his female impersonation was brilliant, and' would have been perfect had the enunciation been just a little clearer. In passing, it may be said that, as a rule, enunciation is a strong feature of The Troubadours, whose, artistry is far above the average. Mr. George Livingston frivolled, Miss Hilda M'Murtrie danced, Mr. Courtney Ford helped generally, Mr. Philip Hardman accompanied from in front of the stage, and the farce farced. It is 'a programme well worth seeing.
