HALF-A-MILLION BRITISH AND FRENCH TROOPS

LONDON, 9th August. The French advanced south-east of Amiens to the assault without artillery preparation. They found the enemy in the act of being relieved and utterly unable to_ withstand the onslaught. It is estimated that the 'British and French who participated comprised a total of a quarter of a million infantry, or half a million of all arms.
