A stray umbrella in a railway carriage and a heavy shower of rain led to the appearance of an elderly woman before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court this morning. Tho defendant, it was stated by. counsel (Mr.i G. G. Watson), took the umbrella simply to keep off the heavy rain, but acted unwisely in failing to notify the authorities and. in not returning the umbrella next morning. The woman was convicted and discharged.
