(Received August 10, 8.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, 9th 'August. The British" and French advance has reached a maximum depth of eleven miles. The British have reached the Framerville-Lihons line. The French have taken Fresnoy (seven miles east of Moreuil).

The British cavalry are within a mile of Chaulnes (35 miles south-east of Amiens).

The .Germans are blowing up ammunition dumps. 'Allied airmen have blown up bridges over the Somme.

The French troops north-west of Montdidier advanced four miles and captured three thousand prisoners.

French military opinion is satisfied that the Germans must cv acuate Montdidier.

The Australians are fighting* north of the Somme. The Canadians have captured Beaiifort.

The British have taken fourteen thousand prisoners. The majority were captured by the Australians and Canadians. The Canadian cavalry surrounded a large force of Germans. It is reported that a German divisional general is included among those captured. Two hundred guns were also taken. The British casualties are only nine thousand.
