FROM TRAIN TO MOTOR.
Sharp stimulation in the demand for automobiles of every type and desorip-' tion, is bound to follow the increase in passenger fares and freight rates over the railroads of the country (states the San Francisco Chronicle). This is the belief not only of automobile men, but also of business men m various lines of commorcial life. It is freely predicted that business houses which maintain large corps of salesmen on the road will find it more economical to provide their men "with cars with which to cover their respective territories. Likewise business and professional men whose activities keep them travelling extensively will, find the automobile a time saver and money maker. Inferior accommodations on railroad trains and' changes of schedule to meet war tim© movements and munitions shipping- needs have already led many of the largest commercial houses in San Francisco to turn, to the automobile as the solution of the problems which confront them. .'Hurried business trips of 200 to 300 miles formerly made in Pullman care by busy factory^ and > commercial concern managers are now being made by automobile. Leading automobile men in the city declare that the increase in demand ior economical quality cars is coining from business concerns and from purchasing agents. One of the best known automobile mea in the West is of the opinion that practically all lines of business will bo mqtoriscd during the coming months. "Merchants are making an increased demand on us for 1 cars to be used in their business. The automobile is a dividendpaying investment and the increase in demand that is being felt is due to the motor car's practical utility." .
