(rbuieb's telegram.) . ■ LONDON, 6th August. Renter s correspondent at British Headquarters, writing on the evening of sth August, states : The new situation in the Ahcre area will presently settl*
down. The enemy front line across the Ancre now skirts high ground north of Dernancourt, going thence eastward to Meaulte* so that the two sides face one' another' across a wide and deep valley with open observation, which renders infantry operations difficult and costly. (Received August 7, 10.30 a.m.) ■ _ LONDON, 6th August. The Daily; Chronicle's correspondent on the British front, says •'the Germans appear to maintain their positions east of the Ancre. They have broken aU the bridges north and south of Albert, and are strongly holding the crossings Into the town.
