SHIP'S BOATS SHOT AWAY
MORE fIUN FIENDISHNESS.
(Received August 7, 8.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, 6th August Officers of a, British 6hip which has arrived at an Atlantic Port gave details of the sinking of the Norwegian barque Eglington by a U-boat by shell-fire in the North Sea. The U-boat appearedl 300 yards away and opened fire without giving warning. The lifeboats were, hit while the crew was attempting to lower them. Several of the crew were wounded, including the captain. The lifeboats were shot away, and the crew boarded a raft while the U-boat's crew watched. All but one of the barque's crew died from wounds and exposure. The survivor, H. Ohlson, was picked up nine days after the attack.
