THIRTEEN THOUSAND PRISONERS CLAIMED
(Received July 18, 10 a.m.) LONDON, 17th July. Admiralty, per Wireless Press : — A German official report states : During the advance across the Marne to the south-west of Jaulgonne, we broke in the enemy lines. We- penetrated part of the French positions south-west and east of Reims. Our artillery, minethrowers, gas-throwers, tanks, and flame-throwers opened the way into the enemy positions. General yon Boehm crossed the Marne between Jaulgonne and eastward of that village. The Germans stormed the slopes on the south bank of the Marne and constructed bridges, and we thrust through the stubbornly-defended woods, and drove the enemy back towards Conde la Chapelle, Combligny, and Mareuil. We won the first French and Italian positions between, the Ardre and the Marne. ' We also attacked the enemy from Prunay as far as Tahure, capturing the first position. We crossed the Comillet, Hochberg, and Kieiberg heights, and reached a point north-west of Prosnes. We made progress between Auberive and south-west of Tahuie. Tho enemy maintains his second position north of Prosnes, Souain, and Perthes. The total number of prisoners taken is thirteen thousand. We brought down thirty-one aeroplanes. A German evening official report states : The enemy delivered violent counter-attacks on the Marne front, achieving some local successes south-west of Reiiris. The situation is unchanged east of Reims.
