HOCKEY

A DISAPPOINTING DISPLAY

A soft ground and the absence of two of the crack teams—-Trentham A and B —made Saturday's hockey at Karori Park rather uninteresting from the spec-, tator's point of view. With th© exception of the match between. V.M.C.A. B and Karori, the games were of a onesided nature, and more than one team did not have its full complement of players. , Although rain threatened the whole afternoon, it was considerate enough „to hold off until play had stopped. : ■ „ . :

No score resulted in the meeting between V.M.C.A. B and Karori. From the outset the local men were placed on the defensive, .but owing to the good work of their backs, V.M.C.A.. were unable to net the ball. During 'the second spell matters evened up, but, despite vigorous and persistent attempts by both sides, no score resulted. On ground No. 7, Featherston scored a decisive win over Base Records to the tune of 14 goals to 4. The scores for the Camp team were:—Summers (7), Salek (4), Ross, Lye, and Voss. For Base Records, M'Leod (2) and Dobson (2) were the scorers.

Play in the match between V.M.C.A. A and C was. rather scrappy. The game ended in favour of the former, the score being 5 goals to 1. Had it not been for the particularly fine defence put up by the C's goalkeeper tho A team would have undoubtedly won by a much larger majority. Ramblers experienced no difficulty, in defeating Pay Department. The game— a very one-sided one —ended with the score at eight goaJs to nil. The following were responsible for the wiunera' tally :—Tait (3), Wheatley (2), Smith (2), and Kuch (1). LADIES' GAMES. The ladies' games resulted as follow : — :. Seniors. College A 3, Huatahi 0. Scorers: Misses Martin, Lucerna, and Marchbanks. Public Trust 2, College 81. Scorers: Misses Israel and Gilfedden (for Public Trust), and Miss Dewhurst (for College). Base Records 3,' Ramblers B 2. Scorers: Misses (3) and- Gray. Te Aro won by default over College B. The following were the referees for the various games:—Messrs: Jones, Dougall, Pragnell, Lloyd; Wheatley, and Cusack.
