PATEENA STILL TIED UP
There is no change to report to-day regarding the position of the Pateena, held'up in Wellington owing to the inability of the Union Company to secure firemen. In order to relieve the position as far as the passenger traffic is concerned, the Opawa is making a special trip to Picton at 9 o'clock to-morrow morning, a permit to carry extra passengers having been secured from the Marine Department. The smaller boats trading between Wellington and Nelson are carrying extra passengers, and the general position is not quite so acute as it might have been. The Nikau and the Alexander sailed for Nelson last evening , with 70 passengers all told.
In order to facilitate the medical examination of recruite, and enable business men to save their time, it has been arranged to commence the work on the afternoon draft half an Hour earlier than has been the custom. Reservists therefore who have been ordered to attend at 2 p.m. aje now asked to parade at the Drill Hall-at 1.30 p.m.
Dr. Valintine, Director of Military Hospitals, has informed the Wellington; Hospital Board that accommodation for sixty additional beds will be required at the Victoria Military Hospital. This matter will be discussed at a conference of the board and Dr. Valintine on Friday.
