ROMNEY MARSH BREEDERS

ANNUAL REPORT OF ASSOCIA-

TION'S COUNCIL.

In its annual report, the Council of the New Zealand Romney Marsh Sheep Breeders' Association states that the result of the year's transactions,' as set out in the balance-sheet, was evidence of the strong financial position of the as.sociation, the income for the year exceeding the expenditure by £103 18s 7d. During the year a further £200 was invested in war bonds, now making a total holding of £600 of bonds and certificates. The amount of accumulated funds of the association at 31st December, 1917. was £1311 9s 2d. The past year had been a record one for the large number of transfers received and dealt with by the council, and for the new flocks admitted for registration in the Flock Book. Volume XIV., to be published this year, would contain particulars of 49 new Socks entered since the previous year. The council decided to keep all members absent from New Zealand on active service, financial in respect to their membership subscriptions. The council had given considerable time during the year to the question of consolidation of Flock Books as suggested by the Board of Agriculture. After a deal of correspondence and after a conference called by the board in Wellington, the council discussed the question in all its bearings, and ha 3 decided to call a special general meeting of members (at the doss of the annual meeting) to consider the matter. "The council feels sure that with the safeguards recommended for the admission of tha Romney flocks appearing in the South Island Flock Book, the position of the New Zealand Romney Marsh Association will be strengthened." In accordance with the rules of tho association, the following members of the council retire by rotation:—Messrs. G. E. Allen, W. Bell, C. C. Buckland, J. Corpe, and R. Tanner, all of whom are eligible for re-election.
