WELLINGTON SOUTH PROGRESSIVE SOCIETY

' A meeting of the Wellington South Progressive Society was held at tho Newtown School last evening. Mr. \V. A. Worth presided. The secretary read replies from the Town Clerk concerning various matters affecting the district, and approval was expressed that Mem-street storm water sewer had been completed, and also that tho council had decided to place a sum on tho estimates for tho new entrance to the Botanical Gardens. It was decided to leave the discussion of the question of schools on the Town Bolt to the meeting of householders at the school committee election nest month. A resolution protesting against any further alienation of the Town Belt was carried.

It was resolved that the attention of the Education Board be drawn to the shortness of the fire escape at the Nowtown School. An interesting discussion took place on the possibilities of further improving the district by cultivation. A suggestion that an ornamental drinking fountain should bo erected by local subscription at the junction of Rintoul and Rididford streets was favourably received, but it was thought that the present time was not the right time to appeal to the residents on the subject. It was deckled to again draw the attention of the Hospital Board to the state of the sections facing the entrance to the hosptial and also ask whether it would not bo possible to grant an entrance for pedestrians to the hospital from Mem-street at the intersection of Minerva or Daniel streets.
