MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Mr. S. E. M'Carthy, S.M., presided at to-day's sitting of the Magistrate's Court,

Three fust-offending inebriates hod their bail (20a) estreated. A soldier who reached the Dominion as a member of the recent return draft was convicted on a similar charge, and ordered to come up for sentence when called on.

Charles Harvey, who was on Saturday, arrested for drunkenness for the fourth time within the last sir months, said that ho "had met an old friend." Inspector Marsack said that Harvey had just been released from prison, where he had served a sentence of three months for drunkenness. He was sent back to gaol for another term of three month's.

Ernest Swagsland was adjudged the putative father of an illegitimate child, and ordered to pay costs and expenses and 10s a week towards its suport. Sidney Hall, who was £5 in arrears in respect to the maintenance of a- child, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment and ordered to pay costs, no warrant to be issued unless applied 1 for. Thomas L. Martin was sentenced to six months' imprisonment for disobeying a maintenance order until his arrears amounted to £35 18s. No warrant will be issued imless applied for.
