SEVERAL PROSECUTIONS.

"This is the most serious offence thero h under the traffic by-laws," stated the City Solicitor (Mr. John O'Shea) in the Magistrate's Court to-day, when H. Thompson was charged with failing to obey a constable on point duty. "Unless these constables are strictly obeyed we can never have traffic regulation in the city. In this case a. collision with a tramcar was narrowly averted." ' Mr. S. E. M'Carthy, S.M., iii entering a conviction, imposed a fine of £3, with 9s costs, 6s witnesses' expenses- and 10s 6d solicitor's fee. ' ; .- . /: .. ;.

Another charge under the traffic bylaws' was brought against Arthur Sinclair, driver of the Hospital ambulance, namely, driving along Courtenay-place at a dangerous speed. It was alleged that Sinclair travelled at the rate of between 35 to 40 miles an hour. Sinclair explained that he had an urgent case on hand, to which his Worship replied:. "I don't care what you had. While protecting the sick you must not kill the living. This sort of thing has got to be etqpped." .A fine of £1, with 19s costs, w,as imposed.

James Proctor, a taxi-driver, was fined 40s, with 17s 6d costs, for leaving a car unattended outside the Commercial Hotel, Lambton-quay, for a period of 45 minutes.

George Masters was fined 10s. with 15s costs, for driving a.n insufficiently-lighted milk cart along Adelaide-road. It was stated that a motor-car collided with the cart, and was. severely damaged.
