Mr. James A. Wallace, Mayor of .Motueka, is on a visit to Wellington. Sergeant W. S. Brien, a son of Mrs. J. Brien, Waimate, has been awarded the Military Medal. Second Lieutenant Allan Farquhar, a son of Mr. J. Farquhar, Clayton, Fairlie, has been awarded the Military Cross. The Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout), accompanied by Mr. Cooke.'hiu associate, left for the north by tho Main Trunk Express to-day. ■ ' ' . A Press Association message from Sydney states that the Rev. James Greene has been elected president of the Methodist Conference. jVlr. R. Fletcher, M.P., -who has been indisposed for some little time, has sufficiently recovered to be able to attend the meeting of the Harbour Board last night. Mr. C. A. Ralston, who has held the position of Government Audit-Inepector for Otago and Southland for the past nine years, has been transferred to Christchurch. By notice published in this week's G-azette, Colonel ,G. J. . Smith, Canterbury Infantry Brigade, is appointed to convene courts-martial and to confirm their findings and sentences. ■. His Excellency the Governor-General directs it to be notified that the ConsulGeneral of Russia at Melbourne has ac* cepted the resignation of Mr. U. F. M'Cahe as Vice-Consul of Russia at Wellington and of Mr. J. Paterson as ViceConsul of R.ussia at Auckland. Latest reports state that Mr. W. Pryor, secretary of the New Zealand Employers' Federation, who. underwent an operation in Auckland for appendicitis last week, is making good progress, but will not be able to return to Wellington for two or three weeks. At a meeting of the provincial section of the Newspaper Proprietors' Association, the following executive ■was'- elected for the ensuing year :-^-Messrs. W. C. Weston (hon. treasurer); C. H. Walker and H., V. Duigan, representing North Island proprietors; Messrs. P. Bond, C. East, and R. J. Gilmour, representing South Islan.6. proprietors, Mr. If. Pirani (chairman); Mr. H. M'Nicol (hon. secretary). Sergeant 0. W. Bishog, reported killed in action, was the eldest son of the Rev. E. Bishop, of MorTinsville, and nephew of Mrs. J. Aston, of Karori-road. His death adds another to the lengthy family record of those -who 'have died in tho present war. Like other members of this family, the lato Sergeant Bishop was a Main" Body man, and belonged to Wellington Mounted Rifles. He went through practically the whole of the Gallipoli campaign, up till the day of evacuation. Subsequently he has been in engagements in Palestine, principally at Gaza, Rafa, and Jerusalem. He probably met his death in the recent operations at Jericho. At last night's meeting of the Harbour Board reference was made to the reported death in action of Mr. S. A. Sharpe, formerly of the board's staff. Tho chairman, Mr. C. E. Daniel], said that the late Mr. Sharpe went to Samoa., returned from there, and then went to Gallipoli, where he was wounded. Subsequently he went to France, and after an engagement was reported as "wounded and missing." It was afterwards reported that he had been killed in action on 31st July, 1917. The board passed a, resolution of sympathy with the relatives of Mr. Sharpc, whose mother, it was stated, resides in England.
