BROKEN HILL SHARES

A CONSIDERABLE BOOM. SYDNEY; 27th February. For a couple of days there has been a considerable boom in Broken-Hill Proprietary shares. In Sydney they touched 755, but have receded to 725. The rise is_ less marked in Melbourne and Adelaide. The cause of the advance is not apparent. It is partially attributed to the chairman's statement at the halfyearly meeting that the profits of the past year were ;. £560,000, ••' against : 000 the previous year";' also to a "rumour that it is the intention of the company to separate the Newcastle steel works from tlie Broken Hill mining undertakings.
