KARORI BOROUGH COUNCIL

The ordinary meeting of the Karori Borough Council, held last evening, was presided over by the Mayor (Sir. B. 6. H. Burn)., The resignation of Councillor Flanagan, owing to lack of time to attend meetings, was accepted. The council d_ecided to support the resolution of the Manawatvt County Council^ urging the resumption of special trains for'race meetings, owing to the damage done to roads by reason of increased motor traffic. A resolution by. the ' Makara County Council was received urging that motor traffic should contribute towards ..the cost of maintaining the roads, mostly used by motors. It was stated that all local authorities throughout the Dominion realised fhe in-creasing annual cost of the maintenance of roads directly attributable to motor traffic. The Government had paid little attention to so vital a- question. A deputation of delegates appointed by the New Zealand - Counties' Association ) Conference to wait upon the Government i was necessary. The amount of the taxes to "be levied according to the weight of the vehicle, horse-uower, should be left for Parliament. This resolution received the support of the council; A letter from the residents of Johnston and Standen streets, thanking the council for the steps they took in preventing the V^llington City Council from extending the cemetery in their neighbourhood, was received. '
