CONFERENCE BUSINESS (»t TEtEfItUPH.—7RE3S jtSSOCUTION.) TAtFRANGA, 26th February. The Fire Brigade Conference continued consideration of the rules affecting competitions this afternoon, and passed several further amendments. A special committee ' recommended the executive to consider discs submitted and report as to their relative merits for competition purposes. Invitations for next conference were received from Invercargill, Levin, Hastings, and Lyttelton. In accordance with the rules, the brigades will be asked to vote for the locality. A motion was passed that during the war and until the executive consider the finances admit of it, no invitation be accepted fromi any town off the, main railways or branches thereof. A motion that a demonstration be held next year was defeated. A motion was passed recommending the executive to consider the question of classifying brigades and report to the next conference. The conference decider! respectfully to request the Government on no account to agree to any proposal whereby the islands in the Pacific will be handed back to the Germans; also .that the Government be asked to employ allaliens in New Zealand on useful work. It was resolved that the Government be asked to print and circulate to brigades the addresses delivered by Inspector Hugo at the morning session. It was decided that the executive purchase forthwith a shield for competition as the Gilberd Memorial* The election of officers resulted : President. Deputy-Superintendent W. Couper (Oamaru); vice-presidents, Superintendent Keith (Hastings), Superintendent Goodwin (Akaroa); treasurer, C. A. Osburne (Onehunga), re-elected; secretary, Captain Watts (Newmarket), reelected ; auditor, , P E. Fraser (Auckland). The retiring president, Mr. Hean (Addingfon Railway) was appointed a life honorary member. The usual votes of-thanks to the executive and to the people of Tauranga for their hospitality closed the meeting. To-morrow the delegates are to be taken on various outings, and there /will be a banquet in the evening. The majority are lea-ving for home on Thursday morning.
