MASTERTON, This Day.
The Martinborough Rifle Club _ commenced shooting on Saturday last in the championship cup matches. Commissioner and Mrs. Hodder, of the Salvation Army, who conducted special services in Masterton on Saturday and Sunday, left on Monday for Featherston and Wellington.
A rather 3erious operation was performed on Sunday on Mr. Frank Feist, a prominent resident of Carterton.
.The weight of the bullock used in the weight-judging competition at the Masterton Show was 1114ilb, and of tho three sheep 2461b.
The autumn show of the Masterton Horticultural Society takes iplace on Wednesday. Satisfactory entries have been received.
The thermometer registered 87 degrees in the shade in Masterton on Sunday last.
At tho annual meeting of subscribers to tho Mastorton Technical School on Monday evening, the report and balancesheet were adopted, and managers were elected for the ensuing year. In championship shield bowling matches played on Saturday, Masterton B defeated Masterton A, and Ekotahuna proved too good for the Park.
A largo gathering, of Protestants assombled last night to hear an address by tho Rev. Howard Elliott. Through some unforeseen circumstance, Mr. Elliott did not arrive, and the meeting- was addressed by tho Hon. W. Earnehaw and tho Rev. P. Millor.
In the weight-judging competition at the Mastorton Show J. Victor, of Masterton, judged the exact weight of tho bullock, and J. H. Percy and Alexl Smith the exiwjt weight of the sheep.
