THE FIFTY REJECTS
10 THE EDITOS. Sir, —Everyone knovs that this wet. is rapidly draining.the man-power of New Zealand, and as time goes 0:1 women,, will be called ou niore'and more* to take the • place of- these-men who- have so aiobly " I died for their country. To,take these ■■ places the-girls' :of to-day or" women of the future must be trained to it.- This world is going forward rapidly, and a person can 110 longer fulfil the l'equire--1 incuts of science and commerce without special training. ' Therefore,.these girls ■■'. must..go. to,college.. Wellington is the \ busiest by far of any-place in lV Tew Zea- ■ land, and therefore "she"'will need many girls. """ ' ; ■ -Yet,-knowing-all this, when.some fifty .of her girls wish to enter for that necessary .'training, they are , actually refused admission, and are given the paltry excuse of "na room."■♦ Now, what is wrong with Wellington"? Instead of. welcoming. lier gifls who are eager and aiixious to be trained, they don't'eveu accept them., if there is'no room.-theH -they should turn to at once ai\d reake room. •. The board is'easily satisfied. Wellington 1 is a large town', and yet she lias only ; five hundred girls at her college. Why, therej should.'.be 'a, thousand," and moi'e waited after; but.no, the board stops at five hundred and excludes all.others. All this is only why the ( board should provide, room for. these girls, but there is a .reason why it!m.ust. ..This rejecting has been going on fcr a year or t»vo jiiow/aiid nothing ■ has been done to remedy it. These girls have all passed.. their proficieiicy/by which they were pro- ■ mised a free place in a secondary school. So J suppose that .the: board, having given\ ;i(.s,word, will .stick by it, and give a place.when it,is applied for.>—l am. etc., ' . '.. ■• '. .''.PARENT. ; ,14th'February.' . ".'::.;. !:' *'
