MIRAMAR BOROUGH COUNCIL

The ordinary meeting of the Miramar Borough Council was held last night, when there were present :—The Mayor .(Mr. F. Townsend) and Councillors M. Tracy, H. K. Robertshaw, S. H. Underwood, and H. Hawthorn.

Some discussion arose out of a proposal by Councillor Underwood—"That a convenience be erected on the east side of Stafford-street, south of Dundasstreet, and towards . the rear of the corner section"—and it was n«gatived. Twenty-six residents of .Worser Bay and Seatoun wrote asking that the question of issuing periliits for camping on the sea-fronts should be reconsidered. The petitioners held that apart from tho serious aspect of the matter arising out. of sanitation, disposal of refuse, etc., the occupation of the sites deprived picnic parties of the use of the most desirable spots, and in the interests of the tram service it' was submitted that tho daily pleasure traffic should be fuUy encouraged. A strong protest was entered against what the residents considered might Easily become a danger and a menace to the health and cleanliness of the bay.

The Mayor explained that all applications for the erection of tents for camping on the sea-front were dealt with on their merits, and there were no standing orders on the matter.
