The harbourmaster at Mackay has sent a wireless mesMge saying that disaster had overtaken the town, which' was struck by a cyclone, a tidal wave, and flood. ! Fourteen bodies have been recovered. The bridge over the Pioneer River has been wrecked. Hundreds of people are homeless. All the wharves and sugar stores collapsed. Two small steamers were sunk. The town is on rations, and there ii only enough food for ten days. A relief vessel has been despatched.
