ENCOURAGEMENT OF RESEARCH,

DUNEDIN, 16th January. At the Senate of the University of New Zealand Dr. Collins gave notice of the following motion: "That the New Zealand University, establish a Research. Scholarship, open to the medical profession in New Zealand on - the subject of cancer and allied malignant diseases, the terms and conditions to be referred to the Medical Committee of the Senate."

A proposal froni Canterbury College for the establishment of in honours, course in Education was" referred to the Degrees and Commerce Committee, Mr. Adams being added to the committee. . •

The question of the appointment of demonstrators to encourage research as suggested by the Chancellor was .referred to the Science Committee, to whom was also referred the report of the committee of the New Zealand Institute on research and industry.
