SECOND DIVISION LEAGUE
Mr. R. A. Armstrong presided at a meeting of the Executive of the Second Division League last evening. The secretary reported that no replies had yet been received from the Minister of Defence or the Prime Minister to the letters sent by the league on the alien question, the retention of fit men on the staffs, and complaints re failure of the Financial Assistance Board to meet the requirements of soldiers. It was decided .to write again expressing the hope that ihese matters had not been overlooked.- ' ■ A number of complaints having been received from reservists to the effect that they were not getting satisfaction from the Financial Assistance Board in the matter of new insurance policies for £200, it was decided to write to--the Minister of Defence asking him whether it was the intention of Government to fulfil the promise made to pay premium and war risk on these new policies where the reservist was not previously insured, and his financial position warrants assistance, and, if so, that the board be advised ro make these grants accordingly. It was further decided, in view of continued complaints, that financial assistance for rents, etc., was not being granted in cases requiring -assistance, that the' Minister lie asked, whether it was the. desire of Government to have the spirit; of the regulations, which had been so fully used in Parliament in an attempt to justify the inadequate separation allowances, recognised by the board arid carried into effect.
