Appealing to the Third Wellington Military Service Board to-day for exemption from service, a country resident wrote stating that he was a married man and had eight children. A little later in his letter he stated that all the children were under the age of 14 years. As the appellant did not attend or furnish any proof of the number and age of hie children the board had no option but to dismiss the appeal. It is not likely, however, that- the appellant will be sent into camp in the immediate future.

Born at sea, registered at Trinidad, and describing himself as a British subject coming from Canada-, a coloured man named Reginald Pierre claimed exemption, before the Third Wellington Military Service Board on the ground that he was a bona fide seaman. In melodious English he told the board hi 6 history, and. produced discharges which proved that he has had' a long career at sea, although at present he is working on shore. Pierre appeared gratified to have hie a-ppeal adjourned sine die.
