EX-SOLDIER DROWNED

GK-EYMOUTH, 9th January.

The body of a middle-aged man was found in a lagoon to-day. His personal effects indicate that the deceased was Charles Henry Sargison, a discharged soldier, 43 years of age. It is believed that he had a brother at Pleasant Point.

Second-Lieutenant Wilfred B. Fitchett, only son of Dr. F. Fitchett. late Public Trustee, has returned to New Zealand. He left with the Main Body as a trooper in the 4Hi Waikato Mounted Bifles. He won his stripes on Gallipoli, and later in France was promoted on the field to commissioned rank. Lieutenant Fitchett was wounded during the Somme battle, and was passed at Armentieres, being then invalided to England. Capt. 11. J. 'VViHiams, who for the past thirteen years lias been engaged in the. Penang (Enst Indies) pilot service, has now retired and is at present in Wellington. For several years Capt. Williams was a., master in the Union Company's service, and when he resigned in 1904 to go to the Indies was in joint command with Capt. G. T. Xull of the Penguin, when that vessel carried two captains in the WellingtonJicton-Nclson i running..
