SIDE CARS OR SIDE-BOXES

A question as to whether the Health Inspectors should have side-cars or j side-boxes attached to their motor ' bikes caused rather a heated discussion at last month's meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. There were_ suggestions made that the inspectors had flouted the Board by procuring^ side-cars, and one member went so far as to ask : "Who is going to boss the show—the health inspectors or the Board?" The question then arose as to whether the Board had actually instructed that side-boxes and not sidecars should be provided, and the whole matter was regarded as of sufficient importance to be referred back to the Health Committee. To-day the Health Committee presented a report from the secretary (Mr. S. Robinson), which outlined the position as follows -—(1) On 10th. May, 1917, the. Public Health Committee referred the matter of obtaining side-cars for the health inspecr tors to the Finance Committee for its fa-vourable consideration. On 18th June the Finance Committee' agreed to the purchase of side-cars, the purchase of the same being left in the bands of the two . chairmen, (2) On 21st June the Board adopted the following Tecommendation of ,the Finance Committee :—"Clause 6 : That side-cars be purchased for the health inspectors." There is no further reference to sidecars in , the minutes or Teports of any committee, nor is there any further reference to'the matter in the proceedings of the Board.
