VISIT TO CAMP
STATEMENT BY THE PRIME
MINISTER
PHYSIQUE OF THE FORCES MAIN-
/ TAINED.
■ The Prime ]Minister, Jftt. Hon. W. F. Massey, visited: TTentham Camp !yester-' day. He was.accompanied by the Commandant of the Forces, Maj.-Gen. Sir A. Bobin. , '-;;.•.
. f I have not had an opportunity of seeing the camp," remarked the Prime Minister to-day, "since before my.' rLsit\ to England. Since then I have been fully occupied with the business of: the session, and matters mostly arising - therefrom. Sines I Was out last, the camp has been very greatly improved, and though I saw several large camps in England, 1 can .confidently say there is nothing in the United Kingdom to* equal our camps in New" Zealand so far as the general arrangements and the comfort of the men are concerned. r
The manner in which the physique of the soldiers is beine kept' up is amply ■> marvellous. Considering that a very ' large proportion of the manhood: of the Dominion has gone to the front, one would expect th« men in camp at"present i to be somewhat deficient'in physique. 4. That is;not. the case. As.far as lam ! able, to judge; the. men in camp to-day are quite equal in physique to any of the 'Reinforcements that have gone; and they are taking, to their training and other " work just-as readily, and even enthusiastically in most cases." ..
