LABOURERS' PAY
When the Arbitration Court made a new award for. general'labourers in Wellington—fixing the minimum rate at Is 3d an hour, with 10 cent, war bonus—the secretary of the union . (Mr. M. J. Eeardon) wrote to the City Council, drawing attention to the increase, which, for the first time in many years, brought the rate for' private employers above the minimum;paid by the Corporation. At the-, same time he recalled a recent resolution of the'-council to" the effect that the wages of Corporation employees should be in, accordance' with the Arbitration Court awards. He aeked that this resolution should now be brought into' operation. ' Mr. Reardon has now be'en advised that the Corporalion will adhere to the rates embodied' in the Court's award. !'.'. .... ■
