HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLED REPORT

The Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce has received the following cablegram, dated London, 10th November, 1917, from the High Commit sioner for New Zealand. (Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot). Meat,—Home-killed mutton and beef are in fair supply, selling at maximum prices. N.,i. mutton and lamb, no supplies available, no quotations \r"cntmo mutton per lb, n_a . Argentine lamb llidj Dutch mutton, in f a ?r supply lHd; Argentine chilled beef, hinds, llgtl, fores 9UI. Butter.— Maximum lower prices maintained misilted butter. , Paris 256s Bd, both saited and nnsalted; Danish and Dutch 229 5; British-made butter ex creamery factory or farm, 2305; lib and 21b rolls, 2445. All descriptions of butter are yery scarce. No official quotations with the exception of Dutch creamery, Paris and Argentine at maximum prices

Cheese.—ln small supply. N.Z., States JMats, Australian, and Canadian at Government, price; Dutch, moderate supplies coming forward, 1503 to 1565, factory 130s to 140s. Estimated Canadian cheeso stocks London, Liverpool, Bristol 22,094 boxes, as against 129,421 at same time last year. Hemp.—Manila, little business doing under Government control. Ontrmt two weeks ending 3rd November, 48,000 bales. N.Z. spot continues in good demandj great difficulty in making sales to arrive, as sellers cannot guarantee date of delivery.

Wheat.—Offerings are very small at official quotations. Little business doin" to arrive. English, 73s 6d. Oats.—Market ouiet but firm. No 2 Canadian Western. 63s 6d. Hops.—Prices have been fixed, £7 15s as average price for the whole of English crop (mutilated word here).
