MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Four first-offending inebriates were dealt with at to-day's sitting of the Magistrate's Court, before Mr. S E M'Carthy, S.M. William Collins, who had been previously convicted, was fined. 20s, with the alternative of serving seven days in gaol. On a charge of drunkenness, a young man named John D. M'Nearnie, who stated that he was a returned soldier, was convicted and Discharged, while for refusing to quit licensed premises he was fined £2 10s, with the alternative of spending 21 days in-gaol. A very old offending inebriate .named Joseph Dossenbach was sent to gaol for three months.

. ' T have kept straight for three years," pleaded George Bowden when charged with drunkenness and using obscene language in'Molesworth-street. The accused was fined £5, with the alternative of serving one month's imprisonment, for the obscene language, and convicted and discharged for drunkenness.'

As the result of a "mix-up" with the police, the .following charges were preferred against Gustave Gustofsen: drunkenness, resisting Constable Frost while m the execution of his duty, unlawfully damaging a pair of trousers valued at 265, and use of obscene language in Tara-naki-street. On the first two charges he was convicted and discharged, for the language lie was sent to gaol for three months, and was also ordered to pay the damage or remain in gaol for fourteen days.

William Wood was convicted and discharged for drunkenness and ordered to pay 20s medical expenses. In addition, he was fined £5, with the option of serving one month in gaol, for wearing 3 military uniform without permission. William Shore was ordered t£ pay 5s 4d a week in respect of the maintenance of a relative in a receiving home; George Henry Bradley, whose arrears totalled £3 15s, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment; an order against Harold Walker was ■ cancelled. ,
