TOWN HALL ORGAN RECITAL

The recital given by Mr. Bernard F. Page, City Organist, on the Town Hall organ on Saturday evening was of very high merit, and it-was gratifying to note that the audience was somewhat' above the average in numbers, i The two works which apparently appealed most, directly to the listeners were widely dissimilar in character—a melodious "Lied," by Wolstenholme (which had to -be repeated), and the prelude to Act I. of "Tristram and Isolde," by Wagner, in which ths organist gave an inspiring'exposition, ol the complex passions underlying ih; master's music. The programme opened with Feltpn's Concerto in E-flat, an honest piece of.work, in the diatonic style of the 18th century, : the - pastoral "Sicilians"-being perhaps the most enjoyable movement to modern hearers. Thj nest number was a repetition, by special request, of the adagio ("The Dream"| from a string quartette by Alfred Hill, winch created such a- deep impression al the last recital. Other works performed included the wonderfully beautiful Faa taisie in A, by Cesar 'Fra-nck— anothe',. piece introduced .to Wellington at t-hi last- recital, and repeated by special re quest on this occasion—and the Suit) Gothique, by Boellmann The suit* openj. with a fine choral, with anjiphonal fortissimo and piano passages; followed by 4 sparkling "Menuet Gothique" and < tender "Priero a Notre Dame," and i| brought to a fitting conclusion in : splendid Toccata, to which Mr. Page di| full justice. A recital is announced fol next Saturday night.
