THE GREY SEAT.

Mr. P. C. Webb, Labour member for Grey, tendered his resignation on exemption from military service being refused him. It is understood, however, that this resignation does :nbt take effect until Mr. Webb fixes a definite date. Meetings of Mr. Webb's -constituents at Greymouth and elsewhere have asked him to recontest. the scat, and he may consent to do so. It is the opinion of people acquainted with the electorate that no man is available to contest the seat in the Labour interest with, the same degree of certainty of success as. Mr. Webb. As opposition has already, been spoken of, the member may accede to the desires of his committee so as to make certain of the seat for Labour rather than run the risk of having the constituency actively represented by an opponent.
