UNION COMPANY HULKS

The present shortage of bottoms has led the Union Steam Ship Company to ta.ee a very important step in shipping matters. It is the company's intention to refit several of their hulks for trading purposes. The lima, once well known in the intercolonial trade, is now on the patent slip, being 'rerigged as a barquenfcine, and this will, be followed, by the'old, well-known Dartford, for some time used as a Union Company training ship, before being dismantled a few years ago. This vessel will, when refitted, fill a much-needed want, as her cargo carrying capacity is so large. It is. also proposed to bring the Lilla once more into commission. It is understood that these vessels when recommissioned will. not trade under the Union Steam Ship Company's flag. ■ • ; ; ' ■
