(the district around Altkirch and Mulhausen) increased to the greatest violence on both sides of the Rhine-Rhone .Canal. The French attacked in the afternoon, but were thrown back at Ammerzweila, eight miles south-west 6f Mulhausen. They captured some of our projecting trenches west of Herdweiler. The attacks were renewed in the evening, but broke down with heavy losses.
