A CONFERENCE AT OHRISTCHimCH. (»T rr.EGaAPH.—PESSS AS3OCIAIIOK.) CHRISTCHURCH, Bth Nor. At a meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Sheepowners' Union held on the showgrounds to-day, a motion was adopted recommending' all members to adhere to the present award rates of pay to shearers and shed hands. It was agreed to send copies of the resolution to other sheepowners' unions of- the Dominion. ■ I . A motion was carried expressing the strongest dissatisfaction at the amount of shipping space allotted to the South Island since 31st July last, and a committee was appointed to,convey to the Prime Minister the resentment felt on the matter by producers. It was further agreed to take such steps to forward the interests of the South Island in the equitable allotment of shipping space as the committee considered necessary.
