TAXI-DRIVER FINED

For charging more than the legal fare Arthur Homer, a ta^i-driver, was today fined 40s and ordered to pay 17s 6d costs, by Mr. S. E. M'Carfchy, S.M. The City Inspector (Mr. J. Doyle) explained that Homer charged 7s 6d instead of 4s for the journey from the Thorndon Railway Station- to the Hotel Cecil, and when interviewed said that he had had financial troubles. That was his explanation.
