DISASTROUS FIRE IN DUNEDIN EDMONDS'S WAREHOUSE I DESTROYED ' ESTIMATED DAMAGE, £50,000. | (IT TELEGRAPH PRBBB ABSOCIATIOH.J ' DUNEDIN, This Day. I A disastrous fire occurred at John Edi monds's hardware shop and warehouse in Princes-street this morning. The cause , of the outbreak is unknown. The fire originated apparently about the centre ! of the building shortly after 2 a.m., and the roof fell in about 3 o'clock. All the firemen in the district were «n----gaged. The trouble was so far in hand ' by 4 o'clock as to allow auxiliaries to be dismissed. j Two firemen, Goldsmith and Adamson, were thrown from a ladder and injured. They were removed to the hospital, but their injuries are believed not to be serious. Nothing was left of Edmonds's buidling but the outer walls. A rough estimate of the damage is £50,000 to stock and £7000 to the building. The Grand Picture Palace next door has its interior soaked, and the damage will probably be about £3000. The Public Trust Building, next door, to the south, escaped with £50 damage. Steel's Clothing Factory, above Moritzson's, had the roof badly damaged and the contents soaked and water-stained. Edmonds's insurances are believed to be £35,000, but the amounts have not yet been calculated.
