BEERSHEBA FIRMLY HELD (AUSTBALIAH-KBW aBALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received November. 8, 9 a.m.) _ . , , NEW YORK, 7th Novembw. GaaaTias been captured. nr «r m v xi .t, , LONDON, 7th November. Mr. W. T. Massey telegraphs: "Beersheba is now firmly, held. All the lugn ground on the north is in our possession. The Turkish front of thirty miles has shrunk considerably, and the enemy is able to concentrate in greater strength at threatened points. General Allenby has now attacked the seaside defences in the Gaza area. The warships harassed the enemy's -communications and destroyed several ammunition dumps. They put up a terrific bombardment with all their guna just before the infantry rushed Umbrella Hill, and captured every living Turk, while the tanks assisted. The enemy made desperate attempts to regain the lost ground, throwing in four counter-attacks, but the Scottish and East Anglian troops broke every Turkish line with rifle and machine-gun fire. Our casualties were considerably smaller than anticipated."
