ON SERVICE

NEW ZEALANDERS ABROAD APPOINTMENTS & PROMOTIONS ! (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) LONDON, 7th September. Brig.-Gen. G. S. Richardson, C.8., ha« 3 received a letter from lit. M. Juriss, London Egt. (Wellington), who is now | a prisoner of war at Clausthal, Hanover, whither he was transferred from ] Friedberg. Lt. Juris says he has been j receiving a number of parcels of com- j forts and constant communications from his relatives in New Zealand, though the latter are somewhat belated. "To break this monotony, we indulge in physical training, fencing, and other recreative exercises, all of which have a tendency to make us forget our surroundings and improve matters generally. The general discussion here at present is the exchange of prisoners of war, and no doubt it will bo a splendid idea when carried into effect, because there are a great number of deserving cases here and in other parts of Germany, not to mention the sick and disabled. As regards myself, I hold out' no hopes of being classed among the possibles, owing to the fact that I am ■ very much junior, besides which I have I only about fifteen months' interment to my unfortunate credit."
