HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLED REPORT (
I The Department of Agricnltnre, Industries, and Commerce has received the following cablegram, dated London 3rd November, 1917, from the High Commissioner. (Note.—Quotations, unless | otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot). Meat.—The following maximum wholesale meat prices have been fixed from beginning of November:-^Home-killed beef 12d, imported hinds llid, fores 9£d. Homo-killed mutton and lamb 13d, imported Hid. No frozen meat has been [ released during the week. No quotations this week, with the exception of New Zealand South Island lamb, lOd, from previous releases. Argentine mutton ll|d, Argenitnue lamb ll^d, Argentine chilled beef, lunds ll^d, fores 9id. Butter.—ln active demand owing to short supplies. No official quotations with the exception of Paris 256s 8d; Argentine 2205, unsalted 223b. New Zea- [ land stocks are exhausted. Cheese.—Market continues firm, all at Government prices. Hemp.—Manila market shows no change. New Zealand market practically cleared, business dull for forward shipment on accouut of freight difficulty. Spot and near-at-hand hemp in active demand at Government prices. / Wheat.—Government offerings are very small. Market quiet at official quotations. I Oats.—Market steady, and prices well maintained.
