PETONE COURT

A sitting of the Petone Magistrate's Court was held this morning befo.re Messrs. J. W. M'Ewan and J. 'McMillan, J.P.'s. As the result of a fracas both inside and outside the Grand National Hotel, Petone. Thomas M'lntosh, Robert Cargill, Leonard Smith, and John Robert Lawlor, on two charges of having assaulted two Maoris named Steve and Sam Campbell, were fined as follows:—M'lntosh and Lawlor, £5 on each charge, or in default two months' imprisonment; Smith, £4 on each charge or six weeks' imprisonment, and Cargill £3 on each charge, or one month. Johann Culgevich was fined 10s for using obscene language in the Central Hotel. George Jones, a billiardroom-keeper, was convicted and discharged for haVing allowed four lads, under age, to be on the premises. The iads were also convicted and discharged.
