feet; 'and "depth 26.2 feet. She was acquired some years ago by the. Commonwealth and Dominion ' Line,"which has. since boon merged into the Cunard Line. Her tonnage was 4700 gross. She was up to>date'in, every .respect, and was equipped with electric light, wireless, and refrigerating machinery. There was also refrigerated space capable of handling about 45,000 carcases. Although a regular to Australia, the "Port:Keriibla has not paid very many visits' to' the Dominion. She -was last vi Wellington a few weeks »go, after which she left for Australia to load. The Port Kembla is commanded by Captain Jack, and, it is understood, is his first command in the. company. ■ ■ "... ,■•.. Immediately on receipt of the news, Mr. J. R. Hooper, manager of the head oflice of the Cunard Line in Wellington, telegraphed to the company's agents in Nelson to provide the necessary accommodation, clothes, etc., for the officers and crew. , (Japtain J. B. Rainey, marine superintendent for the Cunard Line, left for Nelson by the Pateena to-day.
