BROOKLYN HARRIERS

Last week-end the Brooklyn Harriers met at Park House, Miramar, to hold their race over a five-mile course, for the club championship. The weather conditions being perfect, a large crowd of ladies and supporters turned out. The course, trailed by R. Cook and R. Poutawera, started on the tramline, led past the terminus, thence on to the low hills north of Wonderland, circled the park, through the cattle yard, thence southward past the gasometer, crossed the tramline again near the boundary, crossed the golf links and over the sand hills, turning northward once more, over the paddocks and roads to the start, finishing on the tramline. For the race seventeen competitors were duly sent on their way by tho handicapper, P. Harvejr. Tt. Watson at once set a hot pace, with the rest of the field close up in a bunch On coming to the cattle yard C. Cummins ran into first place, closely followed by R. Watson, H. Mio, and C. Willis. Prom thence onward he was never headed, the positions remaining the same to within half-a-milo from home, where EL Mio displaced It. Watson for second pk.ce, C. Willis lying fourth. C. Cummins evenutally won by about 150 yards from H. Mio, R. ; Watson being third, and C. Willis fourth. Time, 32min 13sec. It was found that the winner had also won the sealed handicap, but being unable to win two prizes in the flame race, the places weirt to the next two on time., namely, T. H. Collins first, and R. Watson second. The harriers and the supporters afterwards adjourned to afternoon tea, during which short speeches were made by Messrs. G. Bristow, W. Cummins, F. W. Moore, and S. Fisher, who congratulated the new champion, and also last year's champion on being second. . Next Saturday the run will be held ■from Rona Bay. The clud will be the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Willis.
