GOVERNMENT ASKED TO RECONSIDER ITS DECISION

OAMARU, 15th .September.
The Mayor has despatched the following telegram to the Prime Minister:—• "I am requested by representatives of 3700 petitioners in this district in favour of 6 o'clock closing to express their disapproval of the refusal of the Government to give 1 effect to tfie prayer of the petition so numerously signed throughout the Dominion, and respectfully request the Government to reconsider • its decision."
