Some prisoners came before his Hon- * our the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) for sentence in the Supreme Court this morning. . . The first was the young man Herbert •■ William Cough, found guilty at the last \ criminal sessions, of'sending threatening letters to a woman demanding money. Mr. P, W. Jackson, who appeared for the prisoner, reminded his Honour of the jury's recommendation to mercy. Sir ■ Robert Stout referred to another charge^*': pending against the prisoner, and Mr. T*. ... S. \K. Macassey, for the Crown, said that owing to the continued sickness of a witness the hearing could not proceed. His Honour said the prisoner required careful attention, and to be closely watched.
