Ignorance was the plea put forward' by Charles William Groves when ho wan charged in the Magistrates Court to-day ■with failing to enrol in the Reserve. Sir. E. M. Beechey, who appeared for the defendant, stated that Groves had* been bush-felling in, the backbfccks and came to Wellington shortly after the passing of the Military Service Act. He enlisted, but was rejected as medically unfit) and thought that nothing more was required of him. He bad,SHK» applied for enrolment, but had been "turnerf; down." Mr. S. E.
