GERMAN RANK ABANDONED. (FROM ODR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) LONDON, 29th ( July. . In accordance with the King's 'desire that those. Princes of his family who are his' subjects and bear German names and titles should relinquish those titles and adopt British surnames, His Majesty ' lias approved the following titles and surnames: —The Duke of Teck, Marquis '. of Cambridge ; Prince Alexander of Teck, Earl of Athlone; Prince Louis of Battenberg, Marquis of Milford Haven; Prince Alexander of Battenberg, Marquis of Carisbrooke. The King has been pleased to direct that Royal warrants shall be prepared granting authority :— ■ 1. To Colonel His Highness the Duke of Teck and his descendants and the other descendants of his father, MajorGeneral His Highness the late Duke of Teck, to assume the surname of Cambridge. 2. to Admiral His Serene Highness Prince Louis of Battenberg and his descendants and such other descendants of his father, His Grand Ducal' Highness the late' Prince Alexander of Hesse, as are British subjects, to assume the surname of Mount-batten.' Her Grand Ducal Highness Princess Louis of Battenberg, grand-daughter ot Queen Victoria and daughter of the late Princess Alice, is, with the King's consent, abandoning her rank and title due to her being a Princes* of Hesse, and wishes to be known only as Marchioness of Milford' Haven. • Lieut. Prince George of Battenberg. R.N., eldest son of the Marquis oi" Milford Haven, will now bear the second family title of .Earl of Medina, after a river in the.lsle of Wight. His younger brother. Midshipman Prince Louis Vrancis, will become Lorn Lonis Mountbatten, and his sister Princess Louies becomes Lady Louise Mountbatten. It is interesting to note that this tiilfc of Karl of Athlone, now assumed by j Prince Alexander of Teck, was formerly held by the late Duke of Clarence, elder I brother of King George.
