SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISTS
TO START A BASE HOSPITAL IN
FRANCE".
Inasmuch as Seventh Day Adventists have been given a certain prominence of late through deputations to the Prime Minister for exemptions from work on the Sabbath, and in appeals for exemption from military service before the Military Appeal Boards, by which they are recognised as coming within the provisions of section' 118 of the Military Service Act, it is interesting to note that the Seventh Day Adventist General Board, recently held at Lorna Linda, California, has decided to establish, at its own expense, abase hospital in France. There will be sent 24 Seventh Day Adventist doctors, and SO women nurses, and 75 orderlies and other assistants, of the same denomination, at a cost of between £8000 and £15,000. All the physicians and nurses are to be selected by the Seventh Day Adventist Foreign Mission Board, whose headquarters are at Washington, D.C., as a Church enterprise. Speaking of the base hospital plan, a leading speaker said : "Our people as a. denomination, of course, are opposed to the bearing of arms, but in this crisis we do desire to do something for the nation, actively, and believe that in this work of mercy we have found an important thing to do." . .
The denomination has also organised a. commission for the conservation of food resources, the plans of which were to be completed last month. In connection with this movement, plans were to be considered, among other . things, for getting people from the cities and settling them on the land.
