RUGBY FOOTBALL
AUCKLAND v. WELLINGTON.
The return match between Auckland and Wellington is to be played at the Athletic Park to-morrow afternoon, and promises to attract a, large attendance and a keen contest.
In spite of the fact that football has been confined to players of the younger generation, the club competitions have attracted considerable interest throughout the season, which may be considered highly complimentary to the play of the boys. Earlier in the year the Wellington team journeyed to Auckland, and, although they failed to score a win, their play was brilliant, and the attendance and interest of the spectators were reminiscent of the keen rivalry of pre-war days. The departure made in Auckland of playing without a wing forward is being repeated again to-morrow, and followers of the game will have an opportunity of judging whether the innovation opens up the game to the same extent as is claimed for it. The Auckland team is ac follows: — Birnie, O'Connor, Wilson, Inglis, Boucher, Minogue, Herring, Lane/ Lock, M'Lean, Thomas, Gibbons, Simpson, Badeley,' and Goldwater.
An additional attraction is the hockey final between the lady representatives of Canterbury and Wellington, which commences at 2 o'clock.
